First Rung Now exists to help UK borrowers make better-informed mortgage decisions — through independent education first, and a carefully vetted broker introduction only when it's genuinely useful. ## Who we are First Rung Now is an independent UK consumer publication and broker matching service. We are not a mortgage broker, lender, or financial adviser. Mortgage advice is provided exclusively by FCA-regulated brokers we work with — never by us. ## What we believe Most UK mortgage sites are lead-generation funnels with content bolted on. We've flipped that. Our editorial team writes guides without input from brokers. Our matching team only introduces brokers we've checked end-to-end. The two teams operate separately by design. ## How brokers are vetted - FCA permissions verified against the Financial Services Register - Whole-of-market access or clearly stated panel - Complaints record and customer outcomes reviewed - Specialism mapped against the scenarios we send (bad credit, BTL, bridging, etc.) - Annual re-review — brokers can be removed at any time ## How we make money When a borrower we've introduced completes a mortgage, the broker pays us a flat referral fee. That fee does not vary by lender or product, which is how we keep our editorial and matching independent. We never charge borrowers. ## Editorial standards - Every guide is written by a human, not spun from competitors. - We cite source material (FCA, PRA, HMRC) where applicable. - Pages are dated and reviewed at least twice a year, or sooner when rules change. - We don't accept guest posts, paid placements, or "sponsored" insertions. ### Education first Read before you act. ### Vetted brokers FCA-regulated, specialism-matched. ### Borrower-side We work for you, not lenders. ### Independent Flat referral fees, no kickbacks.
